EU trade officials have told African countries that if they adopted any GM crop, the EU would stop importing all agricultural products from that country. This is the ethics of EU-based eNGOs. Another exceptional observation by Richard Roberts. #ICABR2022

The [EU’s Green] deal includes the requirement that we must produce organically.

Minusta virallinen Eurooppa eli EU jo kerran lupasi, ettei se tee tuollaista? Vaikka sotkisikin oman maataloutensa luomusuunnitelmillaan.

Täällä lisää tuosta em. twiitin tapauksesta:

https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/article/2000125446/europe-to-shun-kenya-s-gm-crops-farmers-told

Quote
Local farmers will find it difficult to export their crops to Europe if they adopt the Genetically Modified (GM) crops, according to the head of the EU delegation to Kenya, Lodewjik Briet.

“We have made this crystal clear to South Africans and I am telling the same to Kenyan farmers that it will be almost impossible to export GMOs to Europe,” Mr Briet said during Citizen TV’s breakfast show, Cheche, on Wednesday.

Tuohon kaipaisi jonkinlaista varmennusta komission suunnalta.

Eräällä tavalla Ukrainan tilanteen seuraus:

Nigeria moves to import GM wheat to lower local food prices

Quote
In a bid to drive down high food prices, Nigeria has launched the process to permit the importation of genetically modified, drought-resistant wheat.

Imports of the GM wheat — patented by Argentina’s Bioceres Crop Solutions — could help augment production by Nigeria’s wheat industry, which is in dire straits, said Dr. Rufus Ebegba, director-general of the. National Biosafety Management Agency.
[..]
However, Nigeria produces just 60,000 metric tonnes to meet an annual demand of between 4.5 and 5.0 million tonnes, leaving a huge deficit, according to a report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). Nigeria imports wheat from Russia and other countries surrounding the Black Sea, but the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has led to an increase in the price of wheat-based products, such as bread, which serve as a ready meal for most homes in Nigeria.

Quote
Ebegba said the NBMA will be accepting public comments on the application dossier filed by Trigall Genetics S. A. through July 11. He told the Alliance for Science that the application for importation simply means that Nigeria can import the GM wheat for food and processing, but not for planting.
(lihav. HJ)

Afrikka tai Nigeria on omaksunut EU:sta huonon mallin siinäkin, että noin voidaan menetellä. Mutta katsotaan nyt:

Quote
Nigeria has already commercialized its first GM food crop, the pod borer-resistant (PBR) cowpea, and previously approved insect-resistant Bt cotton. It has also approved the import of GM corn for food and processing. Opening the door to GM wheat would further solidify Nigeria’s role as a continent leader in agricultural biotechnology.

Viewpoint: Cost of misinformation — Nigeria spends over 40 million dollars a year importing cowpea. A GMO insect resistant version could save money and lives

Quote
The new variety was endorsed to help farmers spray less pesticide, increase yield, reduce poverty, and foster economic transformation in the country.

The new PBR cowpea promises to bridge the huge gap in beans production and help Nigeria save over N48 billion [over 115.5 million USD] yearly. Therefore, it is crucial to dispel public fear, and help them to understand that GM crops are highly regulated.

Nyt taitaa peruna lopullisesti päästä Afrikkaan:

Rwanda uses biotech potato variety to fight same blight that caused Irish Potato Famine — saving 80% of potatoes

Quote
According to the International potato Centre (CIP), in East Africa, the disease can destroy as much as 60-100 per cent of the crop.

The CIP scientists working with Rwanda are using bioengineering to transfer resistance genes from wild potato relatives into varieties that are already popular with farmers and consumers so as to fight the disease.

Viljelijät ovat innostuneita:

Genetically-engineered disease-resistant potato eagerly awaited by farmers in Rwanda

Koska kyseessä on geenieditointi, periaatteessa kaikki totutut perunalajikkeet voisivat säilyä muutoin ennallaan.

Vaan on jollakin tavalla hallinnassa. Mutta aiheuttaa silti silloin tällöin ongelmia. Muuta vielä nyt pidetään bioteknologiaa poissa Euroopasta!

Kaikki vahingolliset — ja ekoimperialistiset! — klisheet:

Sota Ukrainassa nosti esiin Afrikan riippuvuuden ruoan tuonnista – viljelyyn sopivaa maata on käyttämättä enemmän kuin muualla maailmassa yhteensä

Quote
Afrikka luisui 1970-luvulla ruoan nettotuojaksi.

Quote

Perinteisten lajien suosittamisessa on usein piilevä luomusanoma.

Ghanassa:

Ghana recognizes crop biotech as ‘vital tool’ in food security battle

Sanoisin, että asiassa toimii eräänlainen "dominoteoria". Afrikan maat toinen toisensa jälkeen tulevat tälle linjalle.

Siinä maassa nyt näin:

GM seeds likely to be in the hands of Ghanaian farmers by next year, scientists say

Quote
Owusuaa also noted that given the number of projects ongoing in Ghana, “it is obvious that we are ready to embrace the gene revolution.”  Scientists are also ready to support it, she said, and “the farmers are welcoming. All they want is a good product, and the scientists are ready to work. We only need the government’s support in terms of funding and policy to make Ghana a better place for everyone,” she concluded.

Luultavasti vihreää valoa on saatu poliitikoiltakin riittävästi, jotta viljelijöille voidaan luvata noin.

It seems like every week, an African or Asian country announces the commercialization of a new GM crop. It's very reassuring to see these countries taking solutions for improved food security into their own hands, soundly rejecting the lies spread by EU based eNGOs.

Afrikan osalta tuo on myös minun vaikutelmani.
