The world would be safer if industrial emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) were stopped, according to the teachings of many schools, the regulatory schemes of some governments and the hyperbolic public relations campaigns of a climate industrial complex. But the truth is happier: CO2 is an irreplaceable plant food that is increasing.

Carbon dioxide, the gas branded as public enemy number one, is not destroying the planet. It is enhancing life on it. Across the globe, elevated CO2 levels are supercharging plant growth and delivering bountiful crop harvests at unprecedented rates.

Why does this matter? Because future generations could benefit from rejecting the hysteria and embracing common sense and well-established facts.

Ei ehkä sano paljon uutta, mutta kertaa nuo tosiasiat. Tätä ei tule usein ajatelleeksi:

You do not need a Ph.D. to see through the haze. Ask yourself: If CO2 is so harmful, why do farmers pump it into greenhouses? Why are crop yields breaking records as CO2 levels rise? The answers are in biology, not ideology.

Plants evolved when CO2 levels were five times higher than today. CO2 emissions from the burning of fossil fuels are restoring the carbon dioxide that was removed from the atmosphere when coal, oil and natural gas were formed from the remains of flora and fauna in swamps and seas millions of years ago. A deficiency of atmospheric carbon dioxide is being rectified.

A recent article at the website CounterPunch titled, Al Gore Puts Down Climate Realism, responding to a TED talk given by Al Gore, says that carbon capture and storage and direct air carbon capture are like fools gold, which neither reduces the carbon content of the air to a meaningful degree nor does so in a cost-effective way. This is true, though not in the way or for the reasons CounterPunch writers articulated.

Mutta:

Where CounterPunch and climate realists really differ on this point is this: CCS is not only expensive and inefficient, it is unnecessary. Carbon dioxide emissions are not causing a climate emergency; weather is not getting more extreme, and none of the alleged tipping points we have been warned about for decades are any closer to being crossed, despite media claims.

In the end, CounterPunch is correct to point out that CCS is a scam, it absolutely is, and is a massive waste of billions of dollars. They missed the main reason, though, and that is that it is totally unnecessary. In no way does rejecting carbon capture and storage put down Climate Realism; Al Gore and CounterPunch will need to find another strategy.

Nyt tuossa projektissa on kyllä käymässä näin:

Hallitus leikkaa yritystuista. Selvitimme, mihin leikkaukset osuvat

Suurimmat leikkaukset kohdistuvat Puhtaan energian Suomi -kärkihankkeeseen. Keskiviikkona hallitus ilmoitti leikkaavansa hankkeen valtuutta 50 miljoonalla eurolla vuodelta 2025. Budjetissa leikkaus näkyy vasta vuonna 2027.

Piippujen tulppaamisen tukemiseen oli alunperin kaavailtu 140 miljoonaa euroa, josta nyt leikataan 50 miljoonaa.

Orpon hallituksen ilmastopolitiikan yksi keskeinen linjaus on ollut niin sanottu piippujen tulppaaminen eli teknisten nielujen kehittäminen teollisuudelle. Teknisillä nieluilla poistetaan hiilidioksidia ilmakehästä ja muodostetaan pysyviä hiilivarastoja

Mutta 90 miljoonaa tuohon hankkeeseen yhä jäi (valtiolta tulevaa rahaa). Tapahtuiko se ihan Orpon mieliksi?

Joka tapauksessa tuollaiset ongelmajätevarastot ovat yhä tulossa Suomeen. Juuri edellisen puheenvuoron näkemyksiä ei siinä kuunnella.

Kommentti | Piippujen tulppaamisen piti olla hallituksen tärkein ilmastotoimi, mutta sekin nitistettiin hengiltä, kirjoittaa ympäristötoimittaja Piia Elonen.

Nykyistä Petteri Orpon (kok) johtamaa hallitusta on alusta asti arvosteltu siitä, ettei se tee riittävästi ilmastopolitiikan eteen.

Syytöksiin hallituksella on ollut vakiovastaus: piippujen tulppaaminen eli teollisuuden hiilidioksidipäästöjen sidonta ja varastointi.

Näin se asia etenee:

Suomi voi alkaa viedä talteenotettua hiilidioksidia Norjaan varastoitavaksi

Suomen ympäristö- ja ilmastoministeri Sari Multala (kok.) ja Norjan energiaministerin valtiosihteeri Astrid Bergmål allekirjoittivat torstaina yhteisymmärryspöytäkirjan, jolla mahdollistetaan hiilidioksidin kuljettaminen rajan yli Norjaan pysyvää varastointia varten.

Suomen maaperä ei sovellu hiilidioksidin pysyvään varastointiin, kun taas Norjalla on yli 28 vuoden kokemus hiilidioksidin turvallisesta ja pysyvästä varastoinnista.

Jollakin tavalla nuo valtavat loppusijoituspaikat jäävät uskoakseni kuitenkin myös Suomen vastuulle.

These regional impacts would not just be academic. Farmers in Canada or Scandinavia might see shortened growing seasons. Populations in northern Russia could face colder winters. Developing nations in Africa or Asia could sue over disrupted rainfall patterns or crop failures. Geoengineering would open a legal and geopolitical Pandoras box of claims, counterclaims, and lawsuits, as countries argue that someone elses climate tinkering damaged their own livelihoods. Even Hausfather and Keith concede in their NYT op-ed that large-scale deployment could exacerbate climate change in some locations, perhaps by shifting rainfall patterns.

Eikä tarvitse paljon rikol[..] sotilaallista mielenlaatua kun hiilidioksidista löytää äärimmäisen pakotteen.

En nyt muista, onko meidän hallituksemme tehnyt arviota piippujen tulppaamisen hinnasta. Tai sen vaikutuksesta ilmakehän hiilidioksidipitoisuuteen.

For decades, we have been warned that the Amazon rainforest, the so-called lungs of the planet, was on the verge of collapse. Headlines screamed about tipping points, mass die-offs of giant trees, and irreversible climate catastrophe. Yet, buried in the data, something rather inconvenient has been happening: the Amazon is getting bigger, fatter, and taller.

A new Nature Plants study, covering 30 years of field data from 188 permanent forest plots across Amazonia, shows that the average size of Amazon trees has increased by more than 3% per decade. In plain English: the forest is not shrinking in stature, it is bulking up.

The natural gas power plant that has produced electricity can further benefit humanity via the waste exhaust that would normally be put into a chimney and vented into the atmosphere, which is a waste of heat and a waste of CO2.   

Rather than exhausting hot gases up power plants chimneys, the exhaust can be utilized in greenhouses, typically through a cogeneration system. The recovered heat energy can be used to warm greenhouses, and the CO2 fertilizes the plants, and all contributes to feeding the worlds population.
