Raportti siitä, miten mielivaltaiset kiellot vuotavat:

Brazilian GMO cotton seed smuggled via Sudan conquers Ethiopian fields

Muuallakin kuin Intiassa. Olemme edellä tuoneet kuitenkin esille, että laittomassa menossa on riskinsä.

There was a great deal. @Greenpeace deliberately spread lies that eating GM crops would make people sterile. This is about as despicable as an organization can get. Yes, the Chinese are investing heavily in GM crop technologies

Kehitysmaissa.

"Genetically Modified (GM) Crop Use 1996–2020: Environmental Impacts Associated with Pesticide Use Change"

Quote
The main technologies impacting on pesticide use have been crops modified to be tolerant to specific herbicides so as to facilitate improved weed control and crops resistant to a range of crop insect pests that otherwise damage crops or typically require the application of insecticides to control them.

Over the 24 year period examined to 2020, the widespread use of GM insect resistant and herbicide tolerant seed technology has reduced pesticide application by 748.6 million kg (−7.2%) of active ingredient and, as a result, decreased the environmental impact associated with insecticide and herbicide use on these crops (as measured by the indicator, the Environmental Impact Quotient (EIQ)) by a larger 17.3% between 1996 and 2020.

India approves first genetically-modified crops in 20 years: Herbicide-tolerant cotton and mustard

Kansalaistottelemattomuus on yhä eräs keino muuttaa asioiden tilaa.

Viewpoint: The world’s farmers are starting a ‘pro-GMO rebellion,’ challenging ‘dubious’ and ‘contradictory’ regulatory regime

Kapina kohdistuisi (tieteellisesti) perusteettomia rajoituksia vastaan.

When will India approve its first GM food crop?
India’s highest court is considering whether to allow genetically modified mustard – a vital source of cooking oil – to be grown in open fields.

GLP kuvasi Intian tilannetta näin:

Will India miss out on the emerging agricultural biotechnology revolution?

Quote
As soon as the government took the decision to release India’s first genetically-modified (GM) food crop — Dhara Mustard Hybrid-11 (DMH-11) — for “environment release”, some activists approached the Supreme Court to ban it for various reasons. The Supreme Court has ordered the status quo to be maintained till the next hearing on the matter on November 17. The opposition to GM food crops is not new.

Eli tuolla tavalla kesken asian käsittely yhä olisi?

Intian GMO-sinapin hyväksymisestä väännetään vielä. Uusin kuvaus siitä, miten:

India’s highest court weighs approval of GM mustard, its first biotech food crop

Quote
The row over transgenic crops in India is back. On 18 October, India’s Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC) approved the evaluation, in open fields, of genetically modified (GM) mustard, a source of cooking oil — a key step on the path to commercial-scale cultivation. But a network of organizations that opposes GM crops is contesting the approval.
[..]
Whether India’s apex court will agree with these scientists is unknown.

Intialaisen vallan kolmijako-opin tulkinnan mukaan voidaan siis tuo myönteinen päätös vielä kumota korkeimmassa oikeudessa. Sitä GMO-vastustajat nyt yrittävät.

The Hindu (vai oliko se Korkein oikeus?) oli löytänyt tällaisen haitan:

Supreme Court worried over effect of GM crops on livelihood of women farm labourers
Petitions challenge environmental clearance given to genetically modified mustard

Kommentoimaan tuohon ei pysty kuin tällä: !!!

Muistamme toki tapauksen, kun eräs henkilö oli samanlaisilla perusteilla teollisia myllyjä vastaan, samaisessa Intiassa.

GLP siitä, kuka asiassa häärii:

India’s Supreme Court mulls impact of green lighting GM crops on peasant woman farm laborers, who will no longer need to hand-weed

Quote
Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, the lead judge on the Bench, agreed that women were an integral part of the Indian agricultural landscape, from paddy fields to tea estates, across the country.

“They work in knee-deep water in the fields, bending the whole day and working,” Justice Nagarathna said.

Senior advocate Sanjay Parikh, for a petitioner, said the widespread use of herbicide-tolerant crops would encourage farmers to spray chemical weed-killers.

“The Supreme Court’s own Technical Expert Committee [TEC] had said that these GM crops were not meant for agriculture in the Indian context. They may be suitable in the western context where there are large farms, but not here,” Mr. Parikh argued.

Monessa yhteydessä on täällä viitattu ajatelmiin parodian mahdottomuudesta nykyisenä aikana.

India has approved the environmental release of GM mustard, its 1st GM food crop. Since then, grassroots opposition has been building, exposing 4 key claims: it's herbicide-resistant, not made in India, can decrease yields & would hurt bees & honey exports

Greenpeace kehtaa vielä tehdä tätä:

Ainakin Intiassa:

Citizens unite to #StopGMFood in Delhi.

Bailey:

The Luddites' Veto

Quote
Beware of activists touting "responsible research and innovation." The sensible-sounding slogan masks a reactionary agenda.

No sensible person could favor irresponsible research and innovation. So RRI—"responsible research and innovation"—may sound like an innocuous idea. As it takes hold in Europe, though, the term has clearly become a cover for what amounts to a Luddites' veto. Now the notion is percolating among American academics. If it finds its way to the halls of state, RRI would dramatically slow technological progress and perhaps even bring it to a grinding halt.

Varsinkin Euroopassa.

Yhä uudelleen tiedemiehet haluavat tuoda esille, miten asian pitäisi olla. Kirjoitus (alkuperäinen) on Naturessa:

Viewpoint: CRISPR crop regulations should be based on the final product, not on the nearly undetectable process of producing new plants
